Nearly every sales organization is experimenting with AI. Very few are seeing its full potential.
In this episode of Improving Sales Performance, Matt Sunshine explores why most companies remain stuck in "AI experimentation mode" and what sales leaders can do to turn AI into a practical advantage.
Drawing on insights from LeadG2's Revenue Enablement in the AI Era report, he shares actionable strategies for embedding AI into everyday sales activities, increasing adoption, and building the foundation for long-term success.
You'll learn how to:
- Integrate AI into existing sales workflows instead of treating it as a separate initiative
- Train sales teams with practical, real-world use cases that drive adoption
- Strengthen CRM data, messaging, and playbooks so AI delivers better results
- Focus AI on the daily activities that improve rep productivity and sales performance
- Move beyond experimentation to create measurable, lasting business impact
If your organization has started using AI but hasn't seen the transformational results you expected, this episode will show you how to bridge the gap between trying AI and truly leveraging it.

Why Most Teams Stay Experimental
Matt SunshineRight now, almost every sales organization is experimenting with AI in some way. And that is backed up by Lee G2's recent revenue enablement in the AI era report. 100% of organizations surveyed said they're either using or piloting AI already. But here's the interesting part only 12% said AI is deeply integrated into their daily workflows. That means most companies are still stuck in experimental mode. They're trying tools, they're testing prompts, they're generating content, maybe saving a little time here and there, but they haven't fully figured out how to make AI meaningfully useful for sales teams day to day. And that's the gap sales leaders need to solve. Because AI by itself doesn't improve performance. Workflows do, coaching does, clear systems do. Today, we're breaking down three practical ways sales leaders can move beyond AI experimentation and start creating real day-to-day impact for their teams.
Embed AI Into Existing Workflows
Matt SunshineAI becomes useful when it's built into existing workflows. One of the biggest mistakes organizations make with AI, treating it like a separate initiative. Top sales teams don't ask reps to stop everything and go use AI. They build AI into the workflows that already exist. For example, prospect research before a discovery call, or drafting personalized follow-up emails, summarizing call notes, identifying stalled deals, or preparing account insights before meetings. The key is reducing the friction. Because if AI creates more work, sales reps won't consistently use it. And according to Lead G2's report, 90% of respondents said AI has improved efficiency in some way, but most describe those gains as incremental, not transformational. That's usually because AI is being layered on top of work instead of embedded inside the workflow itself. The best sales leaders ask, where are reps losing time? Where are they repeating manual tasks? Where can AI remove friction or improve consistency? That's where adoption becomes practical.
Train Reps With Real Use Cases
Matt SunshineAI is more effective when teams are actually trained to use it. A lot of organizations assume if we buy the tool, people will just figure it out. But that's not what the data shows. Lead G2's report found that lack of training and internal expertise was the number one barrier to AI adoption across every role survey. And sales individual contributors felt that gap the most. Top sales leaders treat AI enablement the same way they treat sales enablement. They provide real use cases, practical examples. They provide coaching, reinforcement, workflow guidance, and ongoing training. Because most reps don't need another AI lecture. They need answers to questions like: so, how does this help me prospect faster? Or how does this improve my discovery meetings or my discovery preparation? How does this help me manage my pipeline? How does this help me close more business? The more practical the application, the more likely adoption becomes.
Fix CRM Data And Playbooks
Matt SunshineAI only works well when the underlying systems are strong. This is one of the most important findings in the entire report. AI amplifies whatever already exists. So if your CRM data is messy or your messaging is inconsistent, or your systems are kind of disconnected and your playbooks are unclear, or you don't even have playbooks, AI doesn't fix those problems. It scales them. Lee G2's report found that 64% of respondents identified inconsistent messaging and playbooks as a top challenge. And only 27% said they were very confident in the accuracy of their CRM and their AI tool data. That matters because AI outputs are only as reliable as the systems feeding them. Top sales leaders understand before AI can become transformational, the fundamentals have to be strong. That means that clean CRM data is important. Consistent sales messaging is essential. You need to have defined workflows, clear enablement processes, and strong coaching habits. AI is an amplifier, not a shortcut.
Focus AI On Daily Rep Moments
Matt SunshineThe best AI strategies focus on daily rep performance. A lot of AI conversations stay too high level. Executives talk about transformation, teams just want help doing their jobs better. The best sales leaders focus AI efforts on improving sales rep efficiency, coaching quality, personalization, buyer preparation, follow-up consistency, and pipeline visibility, not just flashy tools. Lead G2's report found that some of the highest potential AI use cases, like sales coaching and conversation intelligence, are still barely reaching the frontline reps. That's a huge opportunity because AI becomes most valuable when it's directly supporting the moments that impact revenue every single
Wrap Up And Next Steps
Matt Sunshineday. So let's wrap this up. AI adoption is no longer the question. Most organizations are already experimenting. The real question is how do you make AI genuinely useful for your sales teams? And the best sales leaders build AI into existing workflows. They train their teams on how to use it practically, they strengthen the systems underneath it, and they focus on improving day-to-day execution. Because AI alone won't create better sales performance. But AI paired with strong leadership, coaching, and great systems, well, that's where real competitive advantage starts to happen.
